Garrett wins 2021 El Taco Loco 100K
On October 23rd, 2021 Garrett did what most people, specifically athletes, cant do.
South side San Antonio Texas was the setting for a grueling race called El Taco Loco. This race hosted a series of race lengths including the coveted 100k. Roughly 62 miles long, this race hosts some of the best ultra runners and outdoor trail running enthusiasts from around the U.S.
The race kicked off around 6 am and would continue for hours, infact, most of the day for some. Enter a local elite athlete named Garrett Philbrick. This would be the test. Garrett is our ultra distance runner and brand ambassador and decided long ago to take on this race as a personal challenge. 10 hours, 32 minutes and 56 seconds later.....Garrett took first in a race that will go down as one of the best.
What did Garrett have to say
"The El Taco Loco 100K was definitely the most challenging ultramarathon I have ever competed in by far, given that it is not only 62 miles of running, but also running on terrain with added heat and humidity, which added a challenge to the race. My plan was to conserve my energy from the start because running a ultramarathon, especially it being my first 100k, you really have to save your energy for a distance so incredibly long, so as to not bonk out halfway. Then once i passed the 50k mark, I started to pick up the pace. Once I finished the third loop (each consisting of approximately 15 miles) of the race with 2 to go, it was all mental strength and pushing through the rough patches. That's what I love about ultramarathons. It shows you what you are truly made of and how tough you are taking the distance. I was shocked when I crossed the finish line, that I had won my 100k debut and I was in tears of joy. All of the hard work had paid off.....
